6 Ways to Profit from Gold's Dip Below $850

I allocate 10% of portfolio in gold as an inflation hedge. Not very buggy, just prudent. For the same reason I hedge interest-bearing deposits in more than one currency. If we're headed for a 1970's hyperinflation, it will be/is planned and purposeful, to bail out the big debtors: USG and GSEs, states, municipalities.

Is it Finally Time to Sell Gold and Related Mining Stocks?

I agree that it's time to sell GLD and miners. If I buy gold again it will be bullion coin at $700 or thereabouts.

Wells Fargo (WFC) will become the largest U.S. bank by branches with its bid for Wachovia (WB), after Citigroup (C) withdrew from compromise negotiations late yesterday on concerns about the quality of some of Wachovia's assets. Wells Fargo, with a bid valued at $11.4B, expects the purchase to be completed by the end of the year, and denies it will have to absorb assets shakier than originally thought. As the financial crisis continues to worsen, the U.S. government is considering two dramatic steps to turn around, or at least slow, the damage: guaranteeing billions of dollars in bank debt and temporarily insuring all U.S. bank deposits.
