  • Bank of America Needs More of Your Tax Dollars
What happens if BAC shareholders vetoes the merger with BAC? MER is as sick as C and will need life support.

  • What Are Some of the Best Hedge Fund Managers Doing?
I like Simon's portfolio the best. He knows all the mathematical skills in the world cannot predict future stock prices for marginal companies. Solid companies with deep markets and pricing power are more amenable to statistical analysis

  • Deploying Paulson’s Capital: The Strong and Weak of It
As a shareholder I know BBT very well. I hope the government does not stink up BBT with some plan to have them inject their excess capital into their sacred New York banks. Bloomberg is already reporting big chunks of federal money lent to AIG has been transferred to GS, MS and New York Banks.

  • BofA Offers World’s Worst Borrowers Astonishing Concessions
The long article above boils down to this simple statement. "Load up BA's balance sheet with more liabilities so they can then be transferred to the taxpayers.

  • BofA Shares Plunge on Earnings Shortfall
Maybe BAC needs capital to meet its LEH CDS obligations which will be due shortly. It this is a big tab, BAC like all the others taking the hit will be staggered.

  • BoA Cuts Off Countrywide ARMs to Save Body of Mortgages
In normal times foreclosure keeps discipline in the mortgage market. These are not normal times so new procedures are required. I expect eventually many people will be kept in their houses with minimum and or token payments to keep the home from crumbling to debris. A hole in the roof and a basement turned into a cesspool will destroy value faster then taking a lower return on your investment.

  • The Financials, the Automakers, and the Call That Cramer and All of CNBC Got Wrong
My experience shows Detroit does make reliable cars. My 1995 Chevy Lumina ran 110,000 miles without anything other than routine repairs. Now driving my wife's castoff 1999 Dodge Intrepid. Smooth, quiet as a whisper and gets 27 miles per gallon. With 115,000 miles it has need a EGR valve, $300, and a transmission speed sensor, $160. Its engine has been serviced with Mobil 1 oil, and all other owner manual recommendations have been followed including belts and cooling system hoses, critical items for an all aluminum engine.

  • Financial Landscape: Writedowns, Losses and Capital Raised
Two fin companies not on your list, BBT and BRK. Smart investors soar with the eagles and avoid being the road kill. Sounds like HSBC will soon be spotted on the highway.

  • What's the BofA / Merrill Synergy?
Jeff, it is an all stock deal and you are right on the money. With CFC and MER's toxic waste there is no room for good assets on BAC's balance sheet. Thain is an engineer and thinks carefully and logically. Lewis is a banker and is in over his head. He came to a gun fight with armed with a knife.

  • BAC's Ken Lewis Mulls Another Deal as Lehman Reaches Brink
All BAC is trying to do is become really "too big to fail". Obviously Lewis does not know the difference between value and price. This bank is bankrupt, just look how they are treating their credit card accounts using every device to extract capital from card holders, laying off thousands of employees etc. A healthy bank like BBT needs not resort to these stringent capital conservation actions.

  • National City: Paying Customers To Close Credit Lines Smacks of Desperation
These are strange times. I think you will be seeing lenders letting borrowers become "house sitters" and may even pay them to stay in the lender's house. A vacant house deteriorates rapidly and with no ready market, it makes sense to keep it occupied. A few foreclosures can be handled, but a tidal wave requires new thinking.

  • More Problems for the Ailing Financial Sector?
All what you say is true, but somehow the invisible hand of the stockmarket says "not so fast" and refuses to enter a new downwave. It has been a lousy forecasting mechanism. Example, when it hit a new high last October
    - what in the world did investors see then? What they saw was wrong, maybe they are wrong agin. Looks like it.
