The Impact of High-Priced Oil on Solar Manufacturers

Quick question: What percentage of US electricity is generated with oil?

Answer: According to the Dept. of Energy's Annual Energy Review, 1.5% for the most recent, full year. Higher oil prices will do more to push up the cost of solar than they will to increase the demand for solar panels, at least until we see a significant portion of our transportation fleet transitioned to electricity (EV's and plug-in hybrids).

Wells Fargo (WFC) will become the largest U.S. bank by branches with its bid for Wachovia (WB), after Citigroup (C) withdrew from compromise negotiations late yesterday on concerns about the quality of some of Wachovia's assets. Wells Fargo, with a bid valued at $11.4B, expects the purchase to be completed by the end of the year, and denies it will have to absorb assets shakier than originally thought.
