Personalized Birthday and Anniversary Gifts

If you really want to knock somebody's socks off with a special gift, use the Internet to make personalized items using your own photographs. It's a great way to keep your giving close to the heart, but conveniently virtual - and surprisingly inexpensive.

From digital images you can make postage stamps, clothing, books, and calendars with just a few clicks of the mouse. The gifts are delivered to your door or a lucky someone else's, often free of charge.

If time is of the essence, I recommend you stick to the sites that offer simple products like T-shirts or picture cubes. Creating your own book or calendar can be very time consuming, so if you decide on this option, plan on investing many hours into putting it together. The companies below provide various options.

Zazzle allows customers to use personal photos to decorate any of their 350+ retail quality products. Among their options are bumper stickers, key chains, magnets, note cards and aprons.

Blurb allows you to design professional quality books with photographs and original text. You will need to download their free bookmaking software, which is available for Mac and Windows users. I suggest you work from their offered templates if you are not computer-savvy.

The Tabblo site gives visitors the tools to make photo-cubes, posters and mini-books. This site does not require installing additional programs and has simpler uploading tools than Blurb.

Additional sites: Qoop, Moo and Imagekind
