Pick the Right Name

Names can make or break a company. If the name is hard to remember or grates on customers' nerves, you'll lose business. Here are some tips for choosing a name that will ensure success.

1) Don't coin your own name. You want your name to say something about your company, but you also don't want to make up a name that consists of a combination of words like "QualiServe" or "TranquiSpa."

2) Don't let your title limit your business's growth. If you make your title too narrow, you won't be able to expand your business. For example, if you put your city in the name but then want to expand services to the rest of the state, customers might think that you only work in the one city. Similarly, if you call yourself "Steve's Television Repair" and then want to fix anything else, customers will be confused.

3) Make your name memorable. Don't use obscure references that customers won't understand, and don't use a name like "Apex" or "Pinnacle" that is so clichéd that it has no meaning.

4) Keep your name out of your business's name if your name is hard to spell or remember. You want your business to be easily found in directories and on the internet, and if customers can't spell or remember your name, they won't be able to find you.
