Plan for a Car Emergency

Cars can break down anywhere. If you drive a lot for business, you may find yourself stranded in unfamiliar territory. So plan ahead. Many companies sell roadside emergency kits, but making your own is easy. Here are some supplies you should keep in your trunk just in case.

1) Bring a first aid kit. This should include bandages, gauze, adhesive, tape, antiseptic cream, instant ice and heat compresses, scissors and aspirin.

2) Be sure to have equipment to fix your car. This should include materials to change a tire (a working jack, a spare tire, a lug nut wrench or tire iron, a pipe for leverage, and a can of Fix-A-Flat or another tire inflator), two quarts of oil, a gallon of water and antifreeze, brake fluid, power-steering fluid, automatic transition fluid, jumper cables (at least eight feet long), gloves, duct tape, and screw drivers.

3) It is also important to have roadside flares, a blanket, bottled water, and some non-perishable packaged food in case you are really stuck.

Storing this many items could fill your trunk depending on its size. Try to keep a little of everything on hand even if not in the recommended quantities.
