Actually get away from the office

Everyone needs a vacation, but many people feel so tied to the office that they can never get away. Twenty percent of workers report they won't take a vacation this year; one-in-four will take five days or less; and nearly ten percent will only get away for the weekend. Further, twenty percent of workers say that they plan on contacting the office while on vacation. Here are some tips on how to leave the office behind and have a relaxing vacation.

1) Make to-do lists. Stay organized and try to get ahead on work before leaving so that you will be less overwhelmed when you return. Make a list of things that will need to be done when you return to save time on reviewing what you've already done.

2) Delegate your work. Make lists, and clearly explain what needs to be done. Give your coworkers contacts to whom they can ask important questions.

3) Let your clients know that you’ll be out of the office, and tell them whom they can contact in your absence. You’re more likely to relax if you know your clients are taken care of.

4) Tell clients and colleagues that you’re returning a day later than your actual return date so that you can have a day to catch up and reacclimate to being in the office without the hassle of email and phone calls.
