Tip for Saving on Insurance, Rental Cars and More: AARP
If you are over 50 -- even if you're not yet retired -- join the AARP (right, that old folks' club - swallow your pride). For a $12.50 annual fee, you'll receive significant discounts on insurance, rental cars, restaurants, travel and many retail products.
For example, Avis gives AARP members 10% off weekday and weekly rental rates, and Gateway knocks 7% off the price of a new PC.

Too bad you have to contribute to their politics in order to get the discount.
It's best to sign up with all the membership clubs you can that don't charge a fee - there can be an amazing difference in the discounts each gets from different services. My friend belongs to a large number - when he walks into someplace that offers membership discounts, he simply holds out all his member's cards and asks which one give the biggest discount.
